The Prince Albert Police Service have issued a warning about a phone scam targeting city residents.
Unlike many phone scams, which claim to be from an international organization, this one claims they are representing the Prince Albert Safe Shelter for Women and are seeking donations.
The scam was brought to PAPS attention on Thursday morning. A Prince Albert resident received the phone call and after making a pledge using a credit card, phoned the shelter to confirm if there was a fundraiser taking place.
After being told there was not any fundraising being done, the resident then cancelled the transaction on the credit card and the police were notified of the scam.
PAPS reminds the public to be aware and protect themselves from phone scams and advising people to not provide credit card or personal information over the phone.
