City crews work on 12th Street on Friday, with machinery scraping off existing pavement in order to make room for its replacement.
Closing a portion of Central Avenue for the day, roadwork on 12th Street progressed to its western portion on Friday.
Work on the street began on Monday, Sept. 23, at Third Avenue East.
By the time work on the street is done, it will be repaved through to Second Avenue West, with each block taking between two and three days, weather permitting.
Although rain delayed work earlier this week, the sun was shining on Friday, pushing crews to dig up the next section of old pavement.
“As work progresses more and more of 12th Street will be inaccessible cutting off some of the north and south access to the downtown for multiple days,” said Nykol Miller, city operations co-ordinator, in a release.
