The Saskatchewan! Connected network will be no more, as of Oct. 15, with SaskTel citing its outdated technology and low usage in most areas as mitigating factors.
The Saskatchewan! Connected network is a wireless Internet service available in downtown and select business districts in Prince Albert, as well as Regina, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw.
“SaskTel has been monitoring the use of Saskatchewan! Connected, and we’ve determined usage is extremely low,” SaskTel president and CEO Ron Styles said in a release.
“The communications industry is continuously driven by ever-evolving and improving technology and the current Saskatchewan! Connected service is slow and antiquated.”
Although SaskTel is considering the introduction of new leading edge Wi-Fi service in high traffic locations, it’s unlikely to replace the existing Saskatchewan! Connected network due to its low use.
