PRINCE ALBERT – The province is looking forward to the next step for a family in-patient treatment centre to be built in Prince Albert.
The Prince Albert Parkland Health Region (PAPHR) board approved the push for the family addictions treatment centre to go to tender.
The centre would house women and their children from across the province during the recovery process. Up to eight families could live in the facility at a time for a six- to eight-week stay.
Kathy Willerth, the director of mental health and addictions services for the Ministry of Health, said the patients would be referred in different ways including self-referral and alcohol and drug services from other regional health authorities in the province.
“(The centre) significantly increases access for moms who might not otherwise choose to go to treatment because of the barriers of child care and having to find someone else to have to care for the children while they access treatment,” Willerth said, adding, “It’s an important component for a particular group of women.”
