REGINA — The Saskatchewan government has renewed a program that provides cheaper bus rides to low-income transit users.

A total of up to $1.4 million will be provided to Regina, Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, Yorkton and Swift Current to subsidize the cost of a monthly pass.

Anyone receiving provincial government assistance — such as a training allowance or disability support — is eligible.

About 63,000 discounted bus passes are currently sold each year under the program.

Individuals now pay between $15 and $20 a month.

The program will run through September.
