LONDON - Robbi Weldon has won Paralympic gold in road cycling.

The Thunder Bay, Ont., cyclist and pilot Lyne Bessette from Knowlton, Que., were first in the women's road race in a visually impaired classification.

The women race on a tandem bike with Bessette at the front and Weldon on the back.

With the win, Weldon and Bessette bounced back from a disappointing fourth in the time trial.

Weldon also represented Canada in cross-country skiing at the 2010 Winter Paralympics in Vancouver and Whistler, B.C.
