CALGARY - Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver says there's a lot of enthusiasm for eastbound oil pipelines, but some environmental pushback is inevitable.
He says projects, such as Enbridge Inc.'s (TSX:ENB) reversal of Line 9 between Montreal and Southern Ontario, would lower eastern refiners' costs and even reduce gasoline prices.
But Oliver says there are some groups that are opposed to energy development under any circumstances that won't be swayed.
For others, who have questions about the environmental impact of energy development, Oliver says the government needs to communicate on an "emotive" level.
Oliver was speaking to reporters a day after Enbridge filed a regulatory application to reverse the flow of its Line 9 pipeline between Montreal and Westover, Ont., and ship more crude through it.
A number of environmental groups say the Line 9 reversal will lead to — quote — "dirty" oilsands crude being exported off the east coast.
