MONTREAL - Prime Minister Stephen Harper appears to have been the victim of the latest stunt by a pair of Quebec radio personalities known for prank phone calls.
This time they got the prime minister on the phone by pretending to be Francois Legault, the leader of Quebec's Coalition party, who was also a former Parti Quebecois cabinet minister.
In a tweet Friday afternoon, a Harper spokesman asked the so-called Masked Avengers when they were going to air the interview between the prime minister and the "fake Francois Legault."
He appeared to take the stunt in stride.
"Well played," Harper spokesman Andrew MacDougall wrote on Twitter.
"The PM always welcomes a chance to speak with the people of Quebec but we do usually like to know about it first."
When contacted by The Canadian Press, a spokesman for the duo would only say to stay tuned until Monday morning.
This is the second Harper-related stunt for the pair this week.
On Thursday, Marc-Antoine Audette and Sebastien Trudel announced that they had posed as the prime minister and managed to get the secretary general of the United Nations on the phone.
They proudly recounted how Ban-Ki Moon was rushed out of an important meeting to speak to them and that he became confused when the fake "Harper" complained that he was too busy combing his hair with crazy glue.
The Avengers' past victims include former Bloc Quebecois leader Gilles Duceppe, former American vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin and business tycoon Donald Trump.
