PORTSMOUTH, England - The new Mary Rose Museum set to open this spring in Portsmouth on England's south coast will be the most significant development to take place in the city's historic dockyard in a decade, officials say.
The boat-shaped museum will display the hull of Henry VIII's flagship, the Mary Rose, along with "one of the finest collections of 16th-century artifacts in the world," says VisitBritain.
The warship, which sank in 1545, was raised from the bottom of the Solent, the strait of water between the Isle of Wight and mainland England, in 1982.
A video has been posted — http://youtu.be/oAbCcyh1qNo — giving a taste of what the exhibits will look like. According to the narrator, the museum will give insight into the personal stories of the crew, "such as the master carpenter's cabin with the remains of his dog."
Missing parts of the ship have been recreated inside the C$56-million museum, using actual artifacts that were found in the wreck.
