SASKATOON — The roar of jet engines will again pierce the quiet sky above Saskatoon this summer.

After a year off, plans are in motion to bring back the Cameco Canada Remembers International Air Show.

Organizer Brian Swidrovich says the air show is important to the community and to military veterans in particular.

This year's event, scheduled for the weekend of Aug. 6-7, is dubbed “Festival for Heroes.”

Swidrovich says some details still have to be ironed out.

The biggest issue is securing airspace above Auto Clearing Motor Speedway just north of Saskatoon, a few kilometres from Diefenbaker International Airport.

“We've already had a couple of meetings about this in the past. There's some general understandings,” Swidrovich explained. “I think we can pull it off quite capably.”

The last event in 2009 was rained out and relegated to indoor static displays.

No show was held in 2010 as the Saskatoon Airport Authority was no longer able to host the event because of airport development.

But Swidrovich insisted at the time that he wanted at least one more air show.
