A police service dog helped track down a man suspected of assault in the early hours of Saturday morning.

While investigating an unrelated complaint in the 1500 block of 16th Street West at 1:10 a.m., an officer with the canine unit heard a woman screaming and went to investigate. As he approached the area, a man fled on foot.

The officer deployed “Jagger” to help find the suspect, who a record check revealed was wanted for an outstanding warrant and was on probation for a serious offence. The woman was unharmed.

Jagger soon located the suspect, a 19-year-old male from Deschambault Lake, who was arrested near 17th Street and 14th Avenue West.

The suspect was remanded in custody and charged with assault and two counts of breach of probation. He was scheduled to make his first appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Monday morning.
