As spring gets closer, Parkland Ambulance Care are advising Prince Albert residents to start removing snow from their homes now.
Ideally, residents should consider keeping a space of six feet around their homes free of snow. Roof rakes can also be used to remove the first three feet of snow from roofs, though anyone venturing onto their roof should always use proper safety harness equipment.
Warmer weather and melting snow makes ice safety more of a priority than before.
Anyone venturing onto a frozen body of water should first check the condition and safety of the ice.
A combination of insulation from snow on top of the ice and erosion from fast-moving river currents beneath it means that ice can be thinner than it appears.
