Heavyn Genayah Rayne is the third child of parents Melissa Mamer and Tyrell Whitehead. Weighing in at seven pounds, 15 ounces, their newborn baby girl joins older brother Drayton, 8, and sister Keidyn, 2.
The proud mother described giving birth to Prince Albert’s first child of 2013 as “pretty cool.”
“She kept going off and on,” Mamer said. “She was ready, then she wasn’t ready and then she was … I didn’t think she was going to be the first baby. I thought she would have been at least the third or fourth.”
At the time of her birth, Heavyn was 10 days overdue. Dr. Dale Ardell delivered the baby successfully on New Year’s Day.
Overall, the birth went off without a hitch -- though according to the mother, things got a bit more difficult later on.
“She kind of gave us a good run at the end,” Mamer said. “She made it tough, but worth it.”

Both parents were born and raised in Prince Albert. Whitehead is a security guard, while Mamer works in the automotive field.
The couple has not decided whether they will have any more children. If they do, they plan to wait a while, as happened after the birth of their first child.
“There’s a pretty big gap between our son and our daughter,” Mamer said. “But the two youngest girls are pretty close together. They’re only two years apart.”
In recognition of the chronological significance of Heavyn’s birth, maternity ward staff donated a gift basket to the parents filled with baby clothes, diapers, toys and other items.
