Building damaged, street flooded after vehicle hits fire hydrant

A motorist caused building damage and road flooding on Tuesday morning after his vehicle hit a fire hydrant in the downtown area.

Police responded at 6:30 a.m. to a motor vehicle accident reported at the intersection of 14th Street and Central Avenue. The vehicle had struck a fire hydrant and caused damage to an adjacent building.

The accident also resulted in significant flooding to the road surface of the area due to hydrant leakage.

A 30-year-old man has been charged with driving without due care and attention and was issued a 24-hour driving suspension.
