One man is dead following a single vehicle collision with the Shellbrook overpass on Highway 2 north of Prince Albert on Wednesday morning.
At about 3 a.m., the man’s southbound pickup truck struck a cement pillar of the Shellbrook overpass, city police state in a release.
The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames by the time emergency personnel arrived. One man was pronounced dead at the scene, with no other occupants in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
Traffic crews redirected traffic around the scene throughout the morning. The Shellbrook overpass was also closed to all traffic until structural engineers deemed the overpass safe to cross.
As of mid-afternoon, some detour signs were still up, but any disruption to traffic had been resolved.
Police suspect alcohol to be a factor in this incident, and the investigation is pending post mortem exam and toxicology reports.

I have known him as a child ...my heart goes out to his parents and children... RIP
