Marking a key date for truckers, Saskatchewan’s winter weights will come into force on Dec. 1 for all provincial highways.

Both primary and secondary weight highways have the same strength when the roadbed freezes in winter. Winter weights allow shippers to move heavier weights during the cold winter months

Shippers using secondary weight highways benefit the most, since winter weights offer a more efficient movement of goods from secondary to primary weight highways.

The winter weight season can start as early as Nov. 16 and generally remains in effect until March 14, though it may be restricted on a minister’s order depending on weather and road conditions.

Up-to-date road restriction orders and related information may be viewed online at www.highways.gov.sk.ca/restrictions.
