A female driver was arrested early Tuesday after hitting a car and driving away, with the other motorist in hot pursuit.

Police responded to a complaint of a hit and run in the 3200 block of Second Avenue West at 12:55 a.m. Two people were in the pursuing car — a driver and a passenger who was on the phone with police.

Officers stopped and inspected the suspect vehicle in the 500 block of Sixth Avenue East, noting that it had sustained front end damage.

The driver of the suspect vehicle displayed signs of impairment and proved to have a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit. A passenger in her car fled the scene prior to the arrival of police.

The suspect was arrested and later released from custody. She will make her first appearance in provincial court on Oct. 29 at 1:30 p.m.

A 33-year-old woman has been charged with hit and run, impaired driving and exceed .08.
