A chase ensued on Friday night after a man assaulted a uniformed Correctional Officer who told him to pick up his garbage.

The officer was on his way to work when he saw the man littering in the parking lot of a Second Avenue restaurant and requested that he remove the garbage. The man assaulted the officer and fled the scene as a passenger in a vehicle.

The officer followed the suspect to the intersection of 28th Street and Central Avenue, where a further physical altercation took place. A passing RCMP officer intervened and Prince Albert police were dispatched to the scene at 9:20 p.m.

The accused was arrested and released on an undertaking with conditions. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Wednesday, Sept. 26.

A 36-year-old man from Prince Albert has been charged with assaulting a peace officer and littering.
