PRINCE ALBERT — Quality of life is more than a phrase for one local group.
The organization, made up of realtors, shares its name with the phrase. Its members are hard at work trying to make quality of life a reality for families in Prince Albert, by raising funds for Habitat for Humanity.
Elaine McMillan, the director of the group, said Prince Albert is one of eight communities taking part in the provincewide initiative.
The group was formed in the city last November and since then has been working hard to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity with a major campaign involving the sale of "golden hammers." The hammers, which were donated to the group by Econo Lumber and engraved pro bono by North Star Trophy, cost $100 each.
Once all 250 hammers are sold, one-quarter of the funds needed to build a house will have been raised.
“We think every family should have quality of life and housing is a huge part of that. We think every family deserves to have a decent place to live,” McMillan said, noting they hope to have all hammers sold in the spring.
In order to raise additional funds, the group is holding a beef on a bun and pop fundraiser today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 615 Branion Drive.
“We hope to sell out,” McMillan smiled, adding, “We just want people to attend and be aware of the project we’re doing in the city.”
The cost for the lunch is $5.
