deb please contact a social worker and get on welfare and please report back on all that money you get for nothing.please let us all know how great it is to live on minimum wage minus a couple dollars an hour.you talk about hell well until you have to rely on social assistance for helping to pay your bills.let us all know from your vacation area because after all you get so much from social assistance you should be able to pay for a nice trip to the second hand clothing store or the food bank.

hey the truth, you ever notice how many people are in jail? then ask yourself why there is so much crime and vandalism now, and why there was so much less crime, and hardly any vandalsim whatsoever, until 30 or 40 years ago (don't beleive me? find an oldtimer: ask them if they locked their doors in PA back then!)
so what has changed? could it be welfare & checks for having kids? could it be free medical care for everyone? could it be related to the death of religion at the core of our society? the loss of civic values and patriotiism- and the rise of Trudeaupian individual rights? and what will things be like here in another generation?

deb i have lived in p.a all my life and until the mid 80's we never locked our doors.but then again that was during a time when even a youth would be held responsible for what they did and not their parents.this is what happens when kids are given more rights than the parents you can all say it is because this reason and that reason but until you have actually had to deal with a situation that invloves a child you will not see what i am talking about.i had a family member who had a child that was doing anything they wanted when the childs parent said enough was enough and put the kid into a group home so the kid would know how good of a life they had that kid turned around and said it was the mom and dads fault becuase they would yell at the kid when they did not listen.now here is the kicker to this story social services gets invloved and accuses the parents of mental abuse now the parents are looked at like they did something wrong because they did not bend over and kiss their kids butt and let them get away with running the house.now you can blame people for being on welfare which is a joke because i know of families that have used welfare and they did not all have kids that were out ruining others property.i know others in this city know that if you have a child that is acting out there is not much you can do because if you do it old school and put them over your knee you can land up in jail for being a parent.take the power away from the kids and make them resposible for their actions and then only then things might start to change.oh by the way i am not against religion but if you can remember back in the 80,s when a parent could swat their kids for doing something wrong the laws were changed because of a hugh scandal involving the catholic church.before you say i am pointing the finger there look at the history of when and why the laws changed for the kids.it was the 80's when hundreds of kids came forward about the abuse they suffered at the hands of catholic priests check what i am saying out look at the time line and you will see i am right.many laws were changed because of this scandal.if i have offended anyone i did not mean to but i am telling the truth.change the laws back to when kids could be punished and then only then will you see a change in our children

Sorry to hear that Mr. Camalari faced the ugly side of local life. Why do these vandals have so much time on their hands and no social conscience? What a deterrent for small business development in our city.

If I could catch just one of them, firstly they would replace the window of the restaurant and then as a punishment, work for free for the victim for a period of time and then have them sweep the entire Central Avenue with a toothbrush.

We need more eyes and ears on the streets - phone in suspicious beahviour and late night street wanderers.

If we can assist with anything Mr. Camalari please give a call at 763-5730.

I must say that if my children ever were caught in doing something wrong, the crime should have a punishment. My kids are good kids so I hope to never have this happen. But if it did, even if they were under age at the time, they can still deliver papers to pay for the damages caused. True, it does go back to the parents. I think it comes down to parenting skills and relationships they have with their children. If it is a bad one, the kids will pick up on that. If the parents are open with their kids, teach them well, and are there for them, the kids will be better. Also, it can be caused from peer pressure. Who are these kids hanging around with? Parents, watch your kids. I see too many 3 and 4 year olds out on the streets without a parent. This is a start to vandalism in older kids and they have had no supervision from the get go. Wise up! Get your kids staightened out. Our city will be better off.

In our society today, children can do whatever they like until age 17 and they know it. They laugh about it, it is a joke. When parents are not parents, and when our legal system pampers, and when teachers are not allowed to discipline, we are in big trouble. By the way, a good swat on the butt never hurt anyone years ago, why did it all of a sudden?

We know Jessie, hard worker and dedicated to this city. As one who worked many late night shifts in this place, a night curfew is needed along with increased patrols, survelliance and reports of crime to the proper authorities. Then with all of this, throw the book at the bums responsible!

I think PA is a terrible place to live. I don't know how much longer can I stand this place. It doesn't look like it will get better, but getting worse. By the way, I heard that SK has the highest crime rate out of all the provinces in Canada. What is the government doing? Just getting wages without doing things? What a laid-back job!

I think we should follow BC on the issue of social assistance. You can only go on br it for a maximum of 5 years there. That gives a person plenty of time to figure out what got them in that position in the first place, and then take steps in there life to get off of it. Here there is no incentive. Why would they try going out and joining the real world, when other people work for them? br i Editor's note: the B.C. system only allows for any one individual to receive welfare for a maximum of 24 months in any five-year period, with exceptions for young mothers, disability, etc. /i

'the truth', I am not against welfare for people that need it: I am saying that it does more harm than good when it is given to healthy able bodied people becasue it creates a dependant culture that is now generational. that is what we are seeing.
and these kids: for every front page story of vandalism, there are a hundred about spitting or spray painting or destroying a garden for fun: the result is a form of cultural cleansing, where people that do not want to be around these things leave; those that are dependant/ resentful stay. it is the road to hell paved wiht good intentions, it is government money being used to undermine our society, culture and economy by perpetuating social problems.

ok 'the truth' I understand you: you think everything is the fault of the courts and the catholics. that is all very politically correct, but mistaken. keep thinking! try again! ask yourself: does the welfare state encourage dependance, and dependance encourage resentmentand resentment encourage crime? and can good intentions from teh government be the road to hell?

The people who did this were probably young kids who have nothing better to do with their time. I know I'm playing Devil's advocate here, but it's not really their fault that they have no conscience about this. You really have to look at these kids' home life. If they had to be accountable for their actions at home, then getting arrested would be a fear of theirs. Instead the parents are encouraging this behaviour by not being involved with in their kid's lives.
I don't know how many times I've seen groups of kids, as young as probably 8 years old, out walking the streets in the middle of the night. These people obviously don't even have a curfew at home. Why would these kids care about anything or anyone, when no one cares about them.
This is a very sad cycle, which can only begin to change with the parents.

Just last night my van was broken in to while we were at the movies. Several others were as well. We called the police and were told that they had ID'd the culprit through some other kids (we also were told who it was) but unless they could PROVE he did it, there was not likley much they could do. We hope that some video cameras caught the little bugger (he's 12 or 13 and the son of a drug addict mom) in the act.

Even if they prove it, as a so-called young offender, he won't face much punishment. In the mean time I have to replace a window and my kids are upset. Thankfully, we hadn't left anything of value in the vehicle.

In my mind, if the vandals are picked up, the parents should get a fine, depending on the severity. If the parents are not working, then they should lose some of their welfare pay. That may be an incentive to know where their kids are and what they are doing. At a last resource, their children should be removed from that home if they are not been cared for properly.

you people can blame the parents but that is not the only problem.it is our justice system that let us down because when these people are caught they are not prosecuted because they come from a bad home or they had a parent or gaurdian that had a addiction problem.if the courts would actually prosecute then and only then will things change.remember if you are a kid you can now get away with murder, rape, robbery all they do is whine how tough their life has been and that is good enough to get a light sentence.until the goverment changes these laws that gave kids so many rights our society will continue to go downhill.
