SPCA sniffs around for shelter funds
The SPCA will likely need the city's assistance in helping fund a new shelter.
Just how much they'll need, however, remains a question.

With all the PEOPLE HEALTH issues ,it doesn't matter Al , 1million is insane!!!We need hospitals and more beds before we send millions on animals. Offer free spading.

In my view, I would rather donate money to feed and help stray and abandonded animals than many other causes in this screwed up world of ours. Four years ago i adopted a family member from the spca. He has been nothing but beneficial and vital in the growth of my family and myself.I could not imagine life without him. He was found, along with his brother, in a dumpster in the middle of winter left to die. Almost all humans have a way of helping themselves(stop stealing, stop vandalising, stop self destructing). All animals need our help!!!!

Joe... they bought land with a building on it. There is nothing that says the building is anything they can or will use. I expect they need to complete a new facility and that is expensive.
Lets see the full plan and budget before you make rash judgements of wether it's too much or too little. -

It is funny how council can find millions to offset the extra funds needed for a soccer centre (had they stuck with the original plan, the extra tax payers monies would not have been needed). The building the SPCA calls home is not healthy for pets, never mind the staff that works there. The mayor and council should be more than happy to help fund a new facility. They can find the money to help fund projects for their friends. Using the election is a joke. If the soccer centre needed money to finish the job, it would have been done. This is just my opinion of course......

SPCA sniffs around for shelter funds
Cute headline. An alternate might be City Raises Leg On Animal Shelter
The SPCA has been neglicted for too long. Time make things right and catch up with other Canadian cities and have a decently equiped shelter. -

Fred... perhaps we should close down the SPCA and watch as our city is overwhelmed by stray dogs and cats. Seems simple enough. Even if we offered free spaying and neutering, there needs to be a decent building to house the humans looking after the strays and doing the spaying and neutering and caring for the animals.
The current SPCA building is a disgrace and the people working there must really love what they do to put up with it. The animals are also in need simply because the space is inadequate for the numbers.
They still need to move somewhere and land and buildings are expensive.
I agree with you on the people health issues but the current people health model is totally unsustainable. People will need to wake up and realize that something has to change. -

So they buy a building for $440,000 but need $3.5 million -- $3 M in renovations? Seems a bit much.
