The Fall 2013 Entertainment Season begins tonight, Sept. 12 with an evening of cowboy stories and songs with Ian Tyson and Corb Lund. Early in his career, Ian Tyson was part of the folk duo, Ian and Sylvia.
Ian and Sylvia wrote and recorded many hit songs including the iconic, ‘Four Strong Winds’. Their songs were covered by some of the most famous singers of the day. Ian Tyson currently leads two busy and vigorous lives running a ranch in the foothills of southern Alberta and his musical career.
He still performs 30-40 concerts per year. Since 2000 he has released four albums, filmed a music documentary for Bravo Television, issued a two-DVD concert video and written his autobiography. His latest CD is entitled, ‘Raven Singer’.
Ian Tyson is a multi-award winning singer/songwriter. Ian Tyson is one of the musical influences of another multi-award winning artist, Corb Lund. Corb Lund and his band, ‘The Hurtin’ Albertans’, perform in a style that is between songwriter folk and straight country. Corb Lund is a great storyteller with thoughtful, intelligent and playful lyrics. He sings songs about cowboy life in Alberta.
He and his band play at folk and country festivals around North America as well as some of the finest ‘honky tonks’ in North America. Corb Lund has to his credit eight albums including his latest, ‘Cabin Fever’. Ian Tyson and Corb Lund will play to a sold out crowd tonight in the Olive and John Diefenbaker Theatre.
On Sunday, Sept. 15 at 2 p.m., Paddockwood singer Elmer Lammedee presents his tribute to Stompin’ Tom. Elmer has been playing Stompin’ Tom Connors’ music for 37 years and has had the opportunity to meet him on several occasions. Elmer will perform the many songs that made the late Stompin’ Tom famous.
Over the past week two new events have been put up for sale on the website. ‘Hockey Mom Hockey Dad’ will play from Oct. 4-6 at 7:30 p.m. This comedy is a two-hander set in the bleachers of an old rink and is a tender and funny story about Canada’s national obsession.
Tickets for John McDermott’s ‘Looking Back … 20th Anniversary Tour are now on sale. McDermott is presented by Shantero productions on March 25, 2014.
