Even though gas prices have skyrocketed recently and might increase even further this summer, people aren't about to stay home.
The general manager of a local resort golf course says people are used to being gouged at the pumps, and it isn't going to stop them from having fun.
Rick Rumberger, who runs the Candle Lake Golf Course, already has plenty of bookings into the summer.
However, Rumberger said gas prices are hurting the operational aspect of his business.
Running mowers and other maintenance vehicles is proving to be costly, he said.
Lois Hanna, co-owner of Fisher Creek Store and Cabins at Candle Lake, said there might actually be an increase in business because local people won't want to travel too far for their summer holidays.
And even if it is expensive to travel, everyone needs a holiday, she said.
If anything, Hanna said gas prices are most likely to hurt her long-distance business, like people traveling from the United States.
She added she's had bookings for her cabins everyday and expects to be booked up soon.
Barbara Gessner, co-owner of Gateway Resort at McPhee Lake, said her reservations for the peak part of the summer are equivalent this year compared to the year before. She has several visitors coming in from Alberta.
