Pledging his support for Greg Dionne, Ted Zurakowski and Martin Ring, past mayoral candidate Riley Simonite wants to see an honest council come out of the Oct. 24 election.
“If you’re going to run for this office, you have to say what you’re going to do and go out there and do it,” he said.
Although he trailed far behind in last place during the 2009 municipal election, with 1,235 votes to Mayor Jim Scarrow’s 4,239 and candidate Jim Stiglitz’s 2,832, Simonite said that it wasn’t bad for someone only 18 years of age.
“It was about 15 per cent of the vote, and I don’t mean to build myself up, but there were people who listened to me at the time,” he said.
Simonite said that his decision to publicize his endorsements is a means of pushing his supporters to like-minded candidates, as he’s decided against throwing his hat in the ring during this year’s election.
Citing Dionne’s refusal to allow a vacant lot next to the Belly Up Pub to be made into a parking lot, Simonite said that his choice for mayor is representative of his constituents.
Simonite expressed a similar sentiment when it comes to councillor candidates Ted Zurakowski and Martin Ring.
Despite his public endorsements, Simonite admits that he hasn’t spent much time in Prince Albert since he was defeated in 2009 and is not up to date on the issues council has addressed since that time.
