Although several people have announced their candidacy for city council positions, the only one to formally submit a nomination form so far has been Mark Tweidt.

The Ward 7 councillor hopeful submitted his form to city council on Tuesday, the opening day of the nominations process.

“I knew I wanted to serve the area, so I didn’t see any sense in waiting,” he said, adding that he’d made up his mind to run years ago.

“I’m going to start knocking on doors in the next two to three days.”

The nomination deadline will end on Sept. 19, with the deadline to withdraw nominations on Sept. 20.

Advance poll dates are scheduled to take place sporadically from Oct. 10 to Oct. 20, with the civic and school board election date Oct. 24.
