Ted Zurakowski has earned his spot again in Ward 8.

The two-term councillor defeated businessman David Koester in Wednesday’s civic election by a margin of 890-448. He was acclaimed in the 2009 election after winning in 2006.

Zurakowski, a teacher, said he’s pleased with the support and motivated by the people who voted for Koester.

“I’m really thankful that the people of West Hill have shown confidence in me,” he said. “I know not everybody voted for me but I’m going to work even harder to gain their confidence.”

For his part, Koester said he was disappointed by the turnout.

“That’s not very many people voting,” he said. “I think the vote was down from last time.

“It’s disappointing but I look at it as they’ve chosen how they wish to have it. That’s just life in the political world.”
