Long time Ward 3 councillor Lee Atkinson will retain the seat for another four years, voters decided on Wednesday.
Though he received the ward through acclamation in 2009, local youth worker Conrad Burns put him to task with his community-focused campaign.
“He had quite a bit of energy … and I hope that we see that again, channelled in some way that will make a difference for our community,” Atkinson said, adding that he’s confident Burns does so.
Taking a modest lead, Atkinson was reluctant to call the race for himself until 75 per cent of votes were in, at which point he was at 555 votes to Burns’ 348.
“I think a lot of people have faith in my abilities that I bring forth their concerns and follow through, and I’m not willing to concede my perspective on things,” Atkinson said.
“I think I have a degree of integrity and I’m not afraid to share my thoughts, so I’m glad they supported me again, and I look forward to serving their needs again.”
Burns was not available for comment on Wednesday.
