Carlton Comprehensive High School French immersion students gave out kisses for educational purposes on Friday. Chocolate kisses, that is.
"The idea is to promote French immersion in the school," said Mike Bowden, French immersion teacher at Carlton.
The students of the French immersion program spent the last week fundraising for the Canadian Parents for French organization while celebrating French immersion week.
They found themselves getting more involved with the French culture by giving out "French" kisses to their fellow students during their lunch hour. Certain students volunteered to wait at a kissing booth requesting 25 cents a kiss, leaving their fellow students wondering what was happening.
"Kids are wondering what is going on," said Bowden. "It has raised a few eyebrows in the school."
Students waiting at the booth were unsure of what to expect. Each student that was brave enough to donate was taken into a curtained room with no explanation.
"I was dared $5 to come in here," said Jacob Racette a grade 11 student. "But I know the people in here, so I kinda knew what was going on."
Participants were offered the choice of a dirty kiss (caramel) or a clean kiss (milk chocolate). Along with the Hershey kiss came an attached tag with a French word and fortune on it.
Some students, however, were expecting an actual kiss and were shocked and disappointed when they received a chocolate kiss instead.
"I seriously thought I was getting a real kiss," said Jay Crawford.
