Do-it-yourselfers will soon have another big box option in Prince Albert.
Home Depot will be coming to the corner of 15th Street and Sixth Avenue East across from the Superstore.
Rodney Bell, a superintendent working on the site for Norson Construction, confirmed that development has begun for a Home Depot.
Norson Construction is based out of Vancouver and Kelowna, B.C., with the Kelowna branch in charge of this project.
James Jones, a project manager for the development, said the retailer is planning on opening in October 2009, with building construction being completed in June.
The job was tendered out by Home Depot and awarded to Norson based on the lowest bid.
More specific budget details are confidential, according to Jones.
Council has approved a development permit for a retail store on the lot, but is reserving comment until an official announcement is made.
City planning manager Yves Richard said the retailer has not given the city authorization to release its name.
"As a city, we approve a use, but we don't approve a company or a person," said Richard. "That's what is public and that's what we can release."
He went on to say that if a retailer never wanted its name officially released, the city has to respect those wishes until residents see the name on the store.

Isnt it funny that ppl can find something to complain about everywhere u look, complain about development, complain about lack there of, complain that roads are crap, then complain when they get fixed because they're shut down for a while...holy ppl get a life! no wonder the city has such a negative outlook, no one is happy with anything...maybe we should just convert back to dirt streets old wood western builings with swinging doors and horse drawn carriages! Oh and by the way how is 6th and 15th any worse then any other intersection?? I suggest walking if u can't drive in pa because its mellow compared to larger cities.

I am happy?? to see Home Depot come to the city(if that really who it is since the city will not say for sure!!) Just what we need another big box store whose profits leave the local area not to mention the country, would be nice to see some of that money pumped into our local economy(maybe to pay for city cleanup! or whatnot) but okay whatever, I just hope the city does something to alleviate the traffic mess this is going to cause, already it is a pain in the butt at 15th and 6th Ave. I can just imagine what it is going to be like once all that area is developed, will be a place to steer clear of!
But overall it should be a good thing?? as it will create more jobs(if they can find the employees who want to work that is) and some competition for those other home improvement stores! -

Right on, Ummm from sk... I agree with you, people in this area complain a lot about everything. As they say in politics you can only please 50% of the people 50% of the time. If it is home depot, I'd say it'll be good for the jobs part of the local economy, but will be murder on the smaller communities around PA and the smaller stores that are already struggling with the big box stores.
