On Friday, August 16th, 2013, 26 weeks of brutal training came to an end with one more successful candidate making it to the finish line. My son just completed the gruelling task of 13 weeks of basic training and another 13 weeks of what I call Combat Training.
Every other day or so (when they weren't out in the field) I would get a short phone call or text to just keep me up to date on his progress. Some of those calls were painful to listen to. From the stories of hardship and pain to the stories of sleep deprivation and sleeping out in the trenches. Our Canadian soldiers have to go through it all and that's what makes them some of the best trained and respected soldiers in the world.
He survived...he put his nose to the grind stone and came out a winner. I am extremely proud. Not just because he is my son, but because of all the hardships he went through just to get into the services. He never quit...he put his faith in Jesus and just knew that he had a calling to help Canadians and our country.
I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried about him. The world is getting crazier and crazier every year. We have unrest everywhere and the world weather patterns have not helped. But this is what he wants to do and I respect him for that. So I just ask that those that believe, add him to their prayers and those that don't, just know that he has done this for you.
Congratulations son..."His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord."
