Donny Parenteau was a double winner at the 2011 Saskatchewan Country Music Awards hosted on the weekend in Swift Current.

Parenteau won his eighth consecutive SCMA Aboriginal Artist of the Year, extending a streak of winning the award from 2004 to 2011.

"I'm really very proud. Very honoured," he said shortly after receiving the award during the SCMA Awards on Sunday night.

"Honoured to be recognized. To the aboriginal artists out there, keep pursuing your dreams. Keep doing what you do, straight from the heart. I absolutely love doing this and that's why I brought up the other person, Yvonne St. Germaine (also nominated in the Aboriginal Artist category), because I share this with all the aboriginal artists that are out there.

"You can't really pinpoint just one. As long as at the end of the day you're happy with what you do, keep doing it."

Parenteau, who was nominated for a 2011 SCMA leading 11 awards, was also selected as the SCMA All Star Band specialty player.
